About Lady Ward

I am a dedicated seamstress, sewing instructor, and the founder of Sewing With Lady Ward, LLC. For more than 40 years, I have watched fabric take shape in my hands. I began sewing at the early age of 10. My mother used to make me and my sisters clothes when times were simpler for mothers. I would sit and watch my mother sew, then I would gather up the fabric scraps and beg for a chance to use the machine. My mother was much too busy to show me at the time, as she was also making my ballet costumes. So, I took the fabric scraps and what I had visibly learned from watching my mother, I began sewing on my own by hand. In addition, I would also take the fabric scraps hand sew doll clothes and doll bedding for my Barbie Dolls. Such humble beginnings has developed into a passion to sew and to teach others, with teaching sewing being her primary desire. This passion to sew led to me becoming an Adjunct Instructor at Broward College, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I did some sewing for a co-worker, and the co-worker was very impressed and asked me to begin teaching for the college. My classes were the following; Sewing, Fashion Design, Business Communication, Introduction to Business Computers and the Administrative Professional, each of these were continuing education courses, which I taught from February 2014 to February 2019. Currently, I am contracted with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office teaching sewing to male and female inmates. Sewing with Lady Ward, LLC. is a thriving small business located in the heart of mid-town Tallahassee offering Sewing & Fashion Design classes, Alterations, Custom Creations, Memory quilts, Garment making consultations, Sample making for local entrepreneurs, and much more. I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve my community by keeping this skill/craft alive. This love for the skill and craft is translated into the classes I teach, the alterations my apprentices and I complete, and the custom creations we produce every time my apprentices and I sit at our machines!
