Words from students and clients of Sewing With Lady Ward.
“Greetings, I am Diamond Gibson, a fourth year Psychology scholar from Miami, Florida. I currently attend FAMU which is why I am in Tallahassee, Florida. While in Tallahassee I had the esteem pleasure of meeting Mrs. Ward. I met her while doing some volunteer work at the Florida People’s Advocacy Center here in Tallahassee. When I met Mrs. Ward my life literally changed for the better. She informed me that she held classes to teach people how knit, crochet, and sew. This was a blessing for me because I’d been looking for someone to teach me how to knit and crochet for the longest. I started taking Mrs. Ward classes on November 19, 2022 and it was nothing short of amazing! It was a one on one class which made the experience super personal. Any questions that I had for Mrs. Ward she had the answers to it. I took a total of three classes. However, by the first class I had the knitting down pack because the classes were very detailed and hands on. I was able to learn different stitch patterns, how to cast on and off, and so much more. With my skills that I gained from taking Mrs. Ward classes I was able to go home for Christmas break and teach my sisters how to knit. Mrs. Ward explained to my how knitting and crocheting is a dying talent because a lot of people do not partake in the craft. However, by taking these classes I was about to gain knowledge and spread awareness about knitting and crocheting. This will allow us to save the craft of knitting and crocheting and keep it going for generations to come. If it wasn’t for Mrs. Ward I would not have gained this new hobby. Knitting gives me a peace of mind and allows me to relax. I cannot thank Mrs. Ward enough for taking the time out of her busy schedule to teach me this craft. (Sent a picture of her sisters) ”
D. Gibson - North Florida“January 12, 2023 I had the pleasure of taking two of Mrs. Ward's sewing courses which were beginners sewing 101 and Fashion design 101. I took both courses virtually and I was able to grasp and execute all the assignments. The beginner's course taught me all the basics of sewing, I learned how to read patterns, the functions of the sewing machine, and different hand-sewing techniques as well. After taking this course I was able to experiment on my own and alter and hem my own garments. The fashion design course was my favorite, I was able to challenge myself and learn more in-depth about the fashion industry. The Fashion Design 101 course helped me sharpen my sketching technique, creative thinking, and quick problem-solving. At the end of this course, I finished with three garments, two altered pieces, and one piece made from scratch. Mrs. Ward is not only a great sewing teacher she’s a great mentor as well. Mrs. Ward is very patient and worked with me at my pace. With her help I know I can accomplish my dreams and be the fashion designer I’ve always dreamt of being. J. Walden ”
J. Walden - South Florida Virtual Classes“January 15, 2023 To whom it may concern, My personal experience with having Mrs. Ward as an instructor has been nothing short of amazing. She is an instructor that truly cares about her students on a personal level and is very passionate about what she does. Mrs. Ward is very patient and detailed which is extremely helpful when it comes to learning a new craft. In her sewing course I learned the basics of sewing, and how to construct garments with both a sewing machine and by hand. I’ve also taken her fashion course which taught me about fabrics, textures, colors, how to read a pattern, how to construct my own patterns, how to create a mood board, influences of fashion, detailed garment constructing, upcycling garments, writing an effective resume, creating a portfolio, how to put together a successful collection, branding, and how to create a name for yourself as a fashion designer. Having Mrs. Ward as my instructor was truly one of the best experiences I’ve had with any class I’ve taken, and would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone. Sincerely, J. Smith ”
J. Smith - South Florida Virtual classes“January 16, 2023 Rhea Stevens, One More Child Single Moms Program Supervisor 8415 Buck Lake Road Tallahassee, FL 32304 To Whom It May Concern, I’m writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Jerilyn Ward regarding her community services with the One More Child Single Moms Program. Jerilyn has been teaching the participants of this program sewing and crocheting for the past two years. Jerilyn taught a cooking class as well. Jerilyn provided a detailed syllabus and explained it in detail. Not only does she explain each subject, but she also provides demonstrations, and practice for each participant. She also would walk around, and make sure everyone understood what is involved with sewing. Along with explaining sewing is a life skill, and not just a hobby. In fact, because of her teachings, some of the participants have begun sewing and mending their own clothes. She has a willing spirit, and anytime I needed her or her husband Robert to stand in the gap for me, they were always willing to help. She would be a great asset to the students and the university. Please feel free to contact me at 850-345-0334 if you have any questions. Sincerely, Rhea Stevens, Single Moms Program Supervisor ”
Rhea Stevens“Jerilyn is a custom Tailor/Seamstress whose talent, quality and craftmanship translates easily into her work. Jerilyn is passionate about her craft and provides excellent customer service to meet the needs of her clientele. Her positive energy and enthusiasm make for an excellent experience. I highly recommend her.”
D. Circconciso - Florida“Jerilyn Ward is an excellent seamstress and instructor. She hemmed a layered chiffon gown for me for a wedding, and it looked as good as the factory hem. Chiffon is difficult to work with and some seamstresses won't even tackle that type of job, but Jerilyn did it without batting an eye. I have also seen some of her creative work which is excellent. She has made blouses and dresses for Holiday events and all are beautiful, and much nicer that one could purchase.”
A. McCoy - Florida“Dear Jerilyn I would like you to know that I appreciate your quality of work that you have done for me over the years. You have been honest, friendly, and your prices are reasonable. Any contact that I've had with you has always been handled in a professional manner. I have extended my recommendations to my friends and all were very happy with the services you provided. In sum, it has been a pleasure working with you. M. Hernandez - Florida”

“Jerilyn is wonderful! She was able to utilize her amazing skills on two unique projects. First was a Tent repair. My office had ordered a custom 10 x 10 tent cover. The first day we used it - it was torn. Jerilyn was able to make the complex repair and match the fabric for the tent to save the day! So when it came to have a very special gift made for a very special occasion I went to Jerilyn. The Item was a quilt. Jerilyn was given the color scheme and the theme and then utilized her creative genius to produce a beautiful and one of a kind gift! It is my pleasure to recommend Jerilyn!”

“I am so grateful to Mrs. Ward for creating such a beautiful skirt for this priceless moment with my daughter.”
N. Samuels - Florida“Sewing Lessons with Jerilyn Ward are an absolute delight, and I would highly recommend her as a sewing teacher for both children and adults. When I signed up for class with her, for some reason I was anxious that it would take me forever to get the hang of sewing since the last time I made anything was probably high school. However, Jerilyn made me feel comfortable, and more importantly capable. She always had words of encouragement, and her enthusiasm made us all even more excited to work with her. I am looking forward to learning lots more from her.”

“I first met Mrs. Ward as an instructor for an introductory sewing class at Broward College in the Summer of 2014. She was always enthusiastic about sewing, and managed to convey that drive to her students. I found Mrs. Ward to be very patient and motivating; she would encourage and commend her students for their work, even when it was less than perfect, but she praised the slighest effort. I later became a private student and found Mrs. Ward similiarly enthusiastic and passionate about sewing as in the regular classroom. She was never hesitant to demonstrate and share her knowledge, with the intention of making me a better student and more competent at the craft. She was precise in her demonstrations and patient when it was time to practice. Mrs. Ward is committed to student success, and has displayed a mature understanding of student's fears and concerns about succeeding in sewing”

“I have really learned a lot from Jerilyn (my mom) when it comes to sewing. As a child she started me and my sister off with hand sewing pillows and blankets, and clothes for our dolls. As I got older I would go to her for different sewing needs, and one day she told me "You are capable of doing it on your own, and you know how, so go for it!" From that day on, when I want to make something I have the confidence to make it on my own and only ask for help when truly needed. Her guidance over the years has stuck with me and her instructions are so clear you can't mess up even if you tried. We've done family projects together and no matter how small my task is, she always makes sure to acknowledge it and tell the world what I did.”
J. Ward - Florida“Jerilyn is such a charismatic Instructor. She has a way with her students that puts them at ease with learning a new skill like sewing. Without her tutelage I would have never had the confidence to make my own skirts and to start my own business selling my skirts. She also gave me to the courage to use my new skill beyond what I could have ever imagined. T. Guess - Florida”
